Frequently Asked Questions

If this is your first time researching Sports Massages or Soft Tissue Therapy you may have some initial questions before you start, so here are a few standard queries that may help. You can also contact us at any time to see how we can help you get back to being your best self.

  • What should I expect during my first visit?

We ask that your first appointment is an hour long. This is so we can carry out any postural assessments & have the time to talk to you about any injuries or possible problems you may have. We do this so we can make sure your massage is bespoke to you.  It insures that we treat you as an individual & are able to treat the correct areas but also support your recovery with the correct rehabilation plan.

  • What should I wear?

We advise that you come to your appointment wearing comfortable clothing, for male clients please wear loose shorts. For female clients normal underwear or sports shorts will work well. Sports bra’s aren’t really advised as they can restrict massage around the neck, shoulders & back, a normal bra doesn’t. We are always aware of your comfort & your modesty is protected at all times with the use of towels.

  • What do I do during a treatment?

We will explain all you need to know at the beginning of your massage, typically during a massage you may be asked to move around several times depending on your treatment, we use movement throughout the massage to achieve a better range of motion within the joints but also to release the muscles. If at any time you are unsure or don’t understand what we are doing please just ask, it’s your treatment & we want you to feel comfortable at all times.

  • Why do we encourage 'homework' in between sessions?

Massage has huge benefits but we do encourage you to spend some time in-between massages to follow some exercises & stretches at home. This is to aid & help with your recovery in getting you back to your normal self or for injury prevention. This will be specific to your treatment & needs, it will also help us get maximum results from your treatment.

  • How long will a massage treatment last?

We offer 45, 60 or 90 minute treatments. For your first initial appointment 60 minutes minimum is needed, this is so we can discuss & assess your needs to make sure your getting the best treatment plan for you.

  • Will the massage hurt?

This is a really common question & can be a factor when deciding to have a massage. We all feel pain differently but massage does not need to hurt to be effective, but sometimes it may feel a little painful & this is quite normal. Sometimes when working with injured or restricted muscles it is uncomfortable during massage, we need to use enough pressure for the treatment to be effective however communication is key, we want to work with you & will always communicate throughout the treatment making sure you are comfortable.

  • How often should I get a massage?

How often you need a massage will be different for every client, we will discuss your journey within your appointment.

  • Do you offer a mobile service?

Unfortunately we do not offer a mobile service, we work from a private garden room nr Amersham, with free parking.

  • Can I have a massage with underlying health conditions?

Massage can help many health conditions, however there are some that are a contraindication to massage or may need permission from you heath adviser. Please contact us before booking in a treatment if you have any issues so that we can confirm if we can see you or not. This will avoid disappointment at the time of your appointment.

  • I am feeling a little unwell, should I still come for my treatment?

If you are feeling unwell at all please re-schedule your appointment as soon as possible. Massage may not be possible with certain illnesses such as viruses, you won’t feel your best & you won’t want to pass anything onto your therapist. We ask that you let us know at least 24hrs before your treatment to avoid a cancellation charge.

  • What should I do following a treatment?

Everyone reacts differently to massage. It is quite normal to sometimes feel sore 24-48hrs after massage, this is normal. The use of over the counter painkillers recommended by your pharmacist is completely fine. Make sure you drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, caffine & exercise for at least 24hrs after treatmnet. If you have any concerns at all after your treatment please just get in contact with us.
