          Imposter Syndrome in Massage Therapy: Are You Ever “Good Enough”?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          “Am I good enough?”
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          “Should I take another course?”
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          “Other therapists are better than me…”
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          If you’ve ever had these thoughts, you’re not alone. In fact, every massage therapist I’ve ever spoken to has felt this way at some point...
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Why?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Because we care. We genuinely want to help our clients feel better!

          We work in an industry where people come to us in pain, carrying stress, tension &amp;amp; the weight of everyday life. That responsibility can feel huge &amp;amp; it’s no surprise we sometimes question ourselves.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          So… How Do We Get Better?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          It might surprise you, but the answer isn’t just another course.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Don’t get me wrong...I love learning &amp;amp; will never stop developing my skills. Courses, books &amp;amp; training all have their place....but after more than 20 years in this industry, I’ve realised something important:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          My Greatest Teachers Have Always Been My Regular Clients!
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          The real learning happens in the Treatment Room, w

          hen you see a client regularly...month after month, year after year...you begin to truly understand them.

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          You notice how stress shows up in their body.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          You learn exactly where they hold tension.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          You begin to recognise the connection between their life &amp;amp; their physical wellbeing.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          You witness their journey...through stressful times, heartbreak, happiness...you feel how those experiences manifest physically.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          That Kind of Understanding Doesn’t Come From a Textbook...

          The Subtle Skills You Can’t Be Taught!

          Over time, something shifts. You start to feel the difference between a tense muscle &amp;amp; one that’s beginning to let go. You notice breathing patterns slowing down...you sense when the body is ready for deeper work...or when it needs a gentler approach.

          How much pressure each individual prefers, when to ease off, when to hold a movement just a little longer, how every client is different! There is no script. No one-size-fits-all routine. There’s just flow...working intuitively with what feels right for that person, in that moment.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          Understanding the Person, Not Just the Body

          With experience, you also begin to recognise when something isn’t quite right. You can sense when someone’s nervous system is on edge. You learn how different personalities need different approaches. You adapt your treatment, not just physically, but emotionally &amp;amp; energetically.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

          Courses are valuable. Learning is essential. Growth never stops. But if you’re feeling like you’re not “good enough,” remember this...

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          You are already learning with every single client you treat. Every session teaches you something new. Every body is different. Every experience adds to your skillset!

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          And that kind of learning?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

          It’s something no course can fully replicate, in a classroom, on the internet, in a book, on a podcast...it's intuition.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          Let me leave you with this...

          Imposter syndrome doesn’t mean you’re not good enough....it means you care. And in this profession, that’s one of the most important qualities you can have as a soft tissue therapist...never stop learning &amp;amp; loving what you do...we make a difference &amp;#55357;&amp;#56473;

          When most people think about stress, they think about feeling overwhelmed or anxious. But stress isn’t just something that happens in your head...it happens in your muscles &amp;amp; body too...&amp;amp; it creeps up slowly!

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Whether you sit at a desk all day or work in a physically demanding job, stress plays a huge role in how your body feels...from headaches to tight shoulders, exhaustion &amp;amp; limited movement.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          Let’s break down why...

          What Happens in the Body During Stress?
         &#xD;

          When you’re stressed, your body activates the 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          fight-or-flight response
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          . Stress hormones like cortisol &amp;amp; adrenaline increase, your heart rate rises &amp;amp; your muscles automatically tense up. This is helpful in short bursts as it’s designed to protect you, but it's not good for us in the long term.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          The problem?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Modern stress isn’t short bursts. It’s emails. Deadlines. Long shifts. Family pressures. Financial worries. Poor sleep. Your muscles don’t know the difference between a real threat &amp;amp; an overflowing inbox. They stay switched on.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          So over time, that tension becomes your “normal.”
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          Sedentary Jobs: The Hidden Muscle Tension

          If you work at a desk:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Shoulders creep up toward your ears
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Neck tightens
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Jaw clenches
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Lower back stiffens
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Hips shorten
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

          Add stress to that static posture, muscles become even more guarded &amp;amp; restricted.
         &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          This often shows up as:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Headaches
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Neck &amp;amp; shoulder pain
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Lower back ache
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Reduced mobility
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Fatigue despite “not doing much” physically
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Mind racing causing disrupted sleep
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Active Jobs: When Stress Meets Physical Demand
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          If your job is physically demanding, stress doesn’t disappear, it layers on top of existing muscle use.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          You may notice:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;

However this is optional &amp;amp; is paid for by the therapist, so it is always a good sign when your SRMT is part of an association.

However, it cannot replace the broader medical expertise of physiotherapy though but must not be mistaken for 'just massage'.
